Reflections : Week 1, How do we learn

#wfe1 The first few lectures were "illuminating".

As a learner, I think this course will help me understand a little more about my own learning style and also be able to relate the "learning style" of others based on their behavior and body language. As this is my first course on this subject, it will help me understand some aspects of the theories of learning as also get to know the thought leaders in this sphere. Oftentimes, as I am asked to address a gathering of educators, I find that I am at a loss with respect to the cant of this fraternity. I think I will be able to pick up some phrases which will help me express myself better. In the video with Dr. Fiona Rodger, there was a discussion about "didactic learning/teaching". It triggered some research from my end and it helped me understand the concept from different perspectives.

Education is in a deep flux. The old constructs of a teacher, students, classrooms, schools etc. are undergoing a complete transformation. The impact of technology has been very deep and wide-ranging. The experiments of Dr. Sugata Mitra ( https://www.ted.com/talks/sugata_mitra_shows_how_kids_teach_themselves ) are forcing us to rethink some very, very basic aspects of education that we assume are axiomatic. The future is exciting and scary.

Deep sense of ennui

So how does one overcome the deep sense of ennui that develops over time? Almost like the thick muck that settles at the bottom of water, how does one clean it? How does one renew oneself and start feeling fresh once more ... relive life ... re-experience the little joys of life? Learn new skills ... not necessarily for grand success but just for the experience.

(Ha! Ha! that was what I wrote in Oct 2010 - life is a little better but still am trying to renew myself)
